I AM writing to voice my disgust at the lack of police co-operation at the recent Easter Egg Run.
Every year for 21 years, Kevin Lawton has organised this event, taking Easter eggs to the children at Pendlebury Children's Hospital.
I first attended this event when I was 16 years old, and have been taking my own children until this year when I was warned that the police escort had been withdrawn. How can this have been allowed to happen?
Thousands of scooters riding through the streets of Greater Manchester on a Saturday afternoon on a charitable event, and the powers-that-be decide that a police escort is not "cost effective".
I had to make the decision not to ride with all my fellow scooter riders, for the first time in many many years.
I did not feel it was safe for my children who are allowed to ride pillion for this event as it has always been so well organised.
But, it is not us who matter, it is the children in hospital.
I sincerely hope that whoever made the decision to cancel the escort reconsiders next year, because without the co-operation and support of the police, who have always been fantastic in the past, I do not feel this event will take place in the future.
