IT would be easy for present generations to forget the real price paid in war by people.
So it was heartwarming to see some Bolton schools going out of their way to mark the VE Day centenary. At Horwich Parish CE School, for example, they kept history alive cleaning war graves in the church grounds.
The school has been given a Lottery heritage grant for the commemorations and is also hoping to organise a headstone for Bolton hero Tommy Edwards as there is currently no memorial.
It’s vital for our young to understand the sacrifice of war, and its consequences.
