I WOULD like to let D H Grant know that the golf course deer do indeed spread further afield than just the golf course.
They have been spotted in the woods at the side of the "mill dam" and also down by the iron bridge over the railway line.
Whilst walking our dogs, we have either seen, or sometimes just seen signs of, the deer, which I believe are the small roe deer variety, even though some of them do grow quite large and are seen sometimes at the Regent Road end of the golf course.
We are very lucky to be allowed to see these creatures, and I can only hope that all the forthcoming plans for an extended golf course and the use of more fields for football pitches do not drive away our wildlife.
