MR Marsh is fully entitled to his views on fluoride, democracy and referendums (Bolton News, March 14). He states that a referendum would be meaningless and not valid.
Perhaps he has forgotten about the 1968 referendum. It was so "meaningless" that it stopped the authorities riding roughshod over the population of Bolton for almost 40 years. That, in my opinion, is not bad for a meaningless exercise.
Mr Marsh also states that a referendum is not democratic. He is certainly correct that we vote in a government, but only a fool would condone and be led blindly by it.
I cannot believe that he accepts without question, every piece of legislation passed by successive governments - I certainly don't.
As regards democracy - what could be more undemocratic than an unelected quango?
So where is your democracy now, Mr Marsh?
