BACK in the summer of 2005, I was so impressed with Bolton Council's decision to commence roadside collection of recyclables, albeit fortnightly.
But what container did we get to cram two weeks' worth of tin, plastic and glass into? A stupid, pathetically small, little green kerby box.
If we were expected to be happy to allow the council to reduce our grey bin collection by 50 per cent, this means that they expected us to recycle 50 per cent of our rubbish, does it not?
Why didn't the council designate the "green" wheelie bin we were provided for garden waste instead? Most gardeners recycle their garden waste via their own composter.
This fiasco has cost the poor long suffering council tax payer dearly. Just wait till the European directive on waste disposal gets its teeth into us.
