I WAS delighted to read of a cafe owner making his cafe a smoke-free zone - about time, anywhere food is served.
I was, however, dismayed to read the remarks of certain public house managers and landlords who rant against the smoking ban.
We see them crying to the council, asking for permission to put up shelters so the smokers can stand outside and have a smoke, keeping dry in the rain. I just wonder how far this legislation would have gone if pub landlords and managers had fitted their establishments with efficient and effective air extraction fans years ago. If they hadn't been so keen on profit margins, and looked to the health and wellbeing of their customers years ago, maybe they wouldn't be in this total smoking ban situation.
They are now reaping what they sowed, by putting profits first.
