I NOTE the article of March 14 regarding "Residents win fight for bus service". It looks too good to be true.

I understand the new 3/3A service to Chorley will go from the Blackhorse area of Blackrod. What about the rest of Blackrod, down to the southern end at Scot Lane?

The residents from this area can't get to Chorley or Middlebrook, less than two miles away.

So for those people living in this area who do not have the use of a car, it looks like they are back to carrying heavy shopping and walking.

The government keeps pushing us to use public transport and reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere. What chance have we to do our bit when we do not have suitable public transport to service the community in the southern area of Blackrod?

The first bus in the morning from Blackrod to the Hospital (521) has been stopped, it now starts at Westhoughton.

Anyone who has an early appointment at the hospital has to go to Bolton, all the way round the houses in Horwich, then get a hospital bus from the town centre - two journeys again. Not everyone has a concessionary pass.

Later during the day, people may get to Bolton by using the Blackrod-Little Lever (521) and change at Westhoughton.

Even the Local Link Taxi service is not suitable to get to Bolton, Wigan or the hospital. So the new bus service to Chorley may be good for the top third of Blackrod, but not much use for the other two thirds.

It would appear that the bus companies are only interested in profit making routes, not to serve the community in general.
