REGARDING "Moving the Farmers' Market will kill it!" (March 8).
Many of the most successful and well known Farmers' Markets are in the middle of towns and cities! So moving into the town may actually be an improvement!
The weather would have far less effect. Toilets, car parking and other facilities are already there, if the right place is chosen.
The real customers are the farmers. If they do not come, there is no market. What do they want?
If they want or have to move, I have a suggestion. £750,000 has just been spent on the historical site of all Bolton's markets. The markets began there some time before 1251. Everyone remembers the success of the first Mediaeval Market in 2003. Over TWO days, 12,000 people visited Churchgate and 5,000 visited the Parish Church.
The work has been done by the council. Now we need to make it work for the benefit of Bolton's people. The street electrical supplies are going in next week and soon all will be ready to offer the farmers a real alternative venue.
Why not consider moving this market to Churchgate?
