I MUST add to the many letters on the subject of the destruction of the Odeon cinema, not just because I visited it during the 1960s and early 1980s, but it is such a wonderful building, built to last, and a credit to the builders of the 1930s.

Do the planners not know that art deco is now very much back in fashion; the jewellery and artefact of the period most sought after?
Surely some of the £7m spent on consultancy fees, we are told, should have been spent on restoring this splendid building.
To me, knocking it down is rather like destroying a pyramid.
As for cafe society in the Crescent - I have visited the Victorian/theme market each August and it is usually a cold, draughty experience.
