DUNCAN James was always going to be a favourite to win the latest "Dancing on Ice" TV series.
Along with breaking a few hearts, the ex-Blue singer has now broken a rib during a demanding routine with partner Maria Filippov.
He is going ahead with Saturday's final against rugby ace Kyran Bracken and actress Claire Buckfield anyway, which is really no big surprise.
It's usually disciplined sportsmen who always seem to do well in these dance-related reality progs - cricketer Mark Ramprakash took the latest "Strictly Come Dancing" title - but entertainers also score highly.
It's easy to believe that today's pampered stars don't have the grit and toughness of yesterday's performers, but it's obvious that the "show must go on" ethos comes with the make-up and roving mics.
There's no doubt that Duncan will be smiling throughout the weekend final. And his many fans will certainly hope he will ultimately be leaping with joy as the winner.
