I WOULD like to back up Ian Upton's arguments against adding fluoride to the borough's water supply.

What about the amount of water used per household for other things, like washing up, washing clothes, having a bath or shower, washing the car or watering the garden in summer.

Do all these need fluoride?

There will be more fluoride wasted than what will be drunk by children. So why doesn't the council or Government supply school children with bottled water that has had fluoride added? School children have, in the past, had free milk.

The children could be given the water as they enter school in the morning. Problem solved!

After the last war, the Government told the nation to eat butter as it was good for everyone.

Then everybody was told to go to work on an egg. Now we are being told butter is too fatty and we should be using margarine, we are also told that eating too many eggs leads to high cholesterol.

So why should we put our trust in so-called experts now when they have been proved wrong in the past?
