WE are told there will be a referendum on the addition of fluoride to our water supply.

Besides yes or no, will we be informed of the added cost to our water rates? You don't get anything for nothing.

As our household is on a metered water supply, I've done a simple calculation on the usage of water in our home.

We use 104 units a year (22,880gals), which is 63 gals or 504 pints a day.

Of the 504 pints of water used each day, only five pints (15 cups of tea/coffee), one per cent, is consumed.

The rest goes down the drain after whatever domestic chore it's used for.

It's not very economical to fluoridise all the water for a one per cent usage.

It's like boiling 504 kettles for three cuppas.

The only advantage I can see is, the domestic plumbing and drains will be spotless.
