SO, we can't afford to do anything to improve the state of Moss Bank Park rock gardens, we can't do anything to restore the pavilion on Church Road (formerly belonging to Knowles Ltd) to its former condition - vandals have ruined it, we can't clean up the bankings on this particular part of parkland, we can't do anything to clean up the street, BUT, we can afford to send councillors off to Cannes.

The town is a disgrace. Empty shops or retail outlets have been replaced by charity shops. Young people spitting, swearing and dropping chewing gum and litter.

Perhaps some money could be spent on wardens to stop this happening.

But then, who's going to take any notice? The majority of people in Bolton didn't want to lose the Market Hall, but it is going ahead. Last week an elderly couple from Wigan asked me directions to the Market Hall and I had to explain that it had been ripped apart on the say-so of a council that doesn't care about the will of the people The couple said they had journeyed specially, but they certainly wouldn't be coming again. And why should they - for Starbucks and H & M? It''s hardly Harvey Nicks is it?
