I WOULD like to congratulate Cllr Andy Morgan for his views on road charges, at last we seem to have a councillor with some backbone who is prepared to listen to and speak up on behalf of the people of Bolton.
Cllr Morgan is quite right when he states that this will have an effect on town centre businesses, as people will shop elsewhere rather than face additional costs. The recent proposal to charge for Sunday parking was dropped, as this would have sounded the death knell for Sunday shopping.
Has anyone thought how many buses would be required to transport everyone who currently drives into the town centre?
Should this be introduced, then I would suggest that on the day of introduction everyone takes public transport into the town centre, and anyone late for work or who loses business as a result of being late, takes a class action against Bolton Council for not providing an adequate transport service.
Bolton Council, while being concerned about congestion, has recently given approval for approximately 300 apartments on Blackburn Road; this is hypocrisy at its best as this road is already congested due to years of developments.
At a time when bus services are being depleted, this year we will be giving the GMPTA £12m of our council tax money, this is an additional £1m more than last year. What is the money being spent on?
