HAVING been in the household service industry for 35 years, I think it would be fair to say that most people, especially council tenants, either do not have time for, or want, a garden, as most appear unkempt, so I suggest that builders start to build terraced houses again.

I loved them - easy to keep, community spirit, cheap to maintain and, I imagine now, with better insulation, are much warmer houses, particularly if they are built facing south.

Two-up two-down, economy for the council, would mean less council tax, chimney stacks, yes, because gas and electric will not last for ever - as long as the loo is not at the bottom of the yard.

I will put my name on one now. Everything goes in circles. I do not need my big house any more. It is too big and too costly to maintain. I reckon 25 per cent of Bolton can identify with me.
