I READ with interest the article on 20mph zones (Wednesday, August 20) and would wholeheartedly support this scheme.

I live near Sunnyside Park, Great Lever, and have expressed concerns for a number of years over the speed of traffic using Westcourt Road which runs between the park and Deane and Derby Cricket Club.

If money is not available for all areas to be 20mph zones I would appeal to the council to please make this road one of them as the speeding traffic is a danger to children using the park and there have been many crashes at the junction of Westcourt Road and Chelsea Road (thankfully no one has been seriously injured — so far).

I am realistic enough to accept that people will not stick to 20mph (unless it is sufficiently policed) but it might reduce them from the 40/50mph they are currently doing to a safer speed.
