THE new series of TV period drama The Village looks a lot brighter than the first, slightly gloomy one although Bolton’s Maxine Peake is as luminous as ever.
The 40 year-old has spoken warmly about her pleasure in filming in the Peak District – an area she always loved after walking there with her late mother, Glynis. “It is extraordinary and beautiful and I am so glad doing this series has re-introduced me to the Peak District,” she stated.
The Village charts the life and times of a Northern village in the 20th century and Maxine plays Grace Middleton. The latest offering begins in 1923 looking at life after World War One.
The farm has taken “a bit of a turn upwards”, explains Maxine, “and things have picked up. There’s more hope and prospects for the farm. As the series progresses the farm life, Grace’s life and the youngsters’ lives, progress.”
This is good news for fans of both the series and of the busy actress. Now, if we can just get a new series of Silk on our screens and discover what happened to the barrister she plays in it, we’ll be happy viewers.
