IN response to M Armstrong and possible problems if Horwich left Bolton and went into Chorley.
With regards to the TfGM travel passes. They would be obsolete as Horwich would then come under Chorley (once it gained independence from Lancashire County Council) or would come under Lancashire.
The fares are higher and there is less money for evening and Sunday services and some services could actually disappear, especially those that service the Horwich estates which are currently subsidised by TfGM.
A perfect example of this happening is Edgworth, which is in Blackburn with Darwen Council, and has lost its direct bus service to Bolton. In fact, there are no buses between Edgworth and Bolton/Bromley Cross since the end of March.
As for phone numbers and postcodes, they will stay the same. Postcodes are what the Royal Mail gives out — large parts of Bury have a Bolton one. Phone numbers are governed by Ofcom and that’s why Westhoughton has Wigan numbers and parts of Bury have Manchester ones.
Bolton Wanderers will stay Bolton Wanderers. It is a private company and they would be foolish to change names. Other teams don’t play where they are meant to — Arsenal play in Holloway and yet they were formed in Woolwich. Manchester United play in Trafford; Chelsea are based in Fulham.
