I REMEMBER picking up the keys to my first house well.
It was 10 years ago and I was fresh-faced 24-year-old.
I was terrified — and very excited — to finally be a “proper” grown-up and home-owner.
This was back in the days before the recession, when house prices weren't absolutely ridiculous and vaguely reflected people's salaries.
Not only that, you didn't need to have a deposit worth more than the Crown jewels to take that first step on to the property ladder.
Yes, admittedly, this did lead to thousands of people being able to buy homes they couldn't afford and probably caused the global financial melt-down.
Thankfully not me personally, I've (luckily) always been in work and been able to pay my mortgage.
So, I welcome any help given to people who are yet to buy a house, because it certainly isn't a position I would like to be in now.
