I agree with the letter from Cllr Salim Mulla (“We must improve child behaviour”).
He says standards of behaviour have been falling since the late 1960s, and that part of the reason is that teachers have no means of disciplining children. He says parents must also share the blame.
While I agree, we must remember that most of these parents were educated in the same undisciplined schools that their children are today. They don’t know what discipline is. Standards must be set in schools.
The day after reading Cllr Mulla's letter, I read an article about abusive school-run parents. It said traffic wardens had been ordered to stay away from a school in Wales, because of the “unbelievable level of abuse” they faced from parents. No doubt their children were giggling while these morons meted out their abuse.
In the same article it said in a survey by Confused.
com, two thirds of parents taking part admitted to suffering from school-run road rage.
More than a quarter had seen rows over parking near schools. Yes, we must improve child behaviour. But what about the parents?
