IT was good to read in The Bolton News that Cllr David Chadwick is pleased that the speed limit in Market Street, Westhoughton, has been reduced to 20mph.

He said. ‘Pedestrian safety has been a serious concern for all of us and reducing the speed of traffic in the town centre is a must’.

We are so pleased that Cllr Chadwick is concerned about the speed of traffic and hope this initiative is taken seriously all over Bolton.

There are so many areas in and around Bolton that are desperate for a 20mph speed limit. In particular, the main High Street in Little Lever and the roads surrounding all our local schools would greatly benefit from slower speeds, as well as more responsible driving.

It’s frightening to see people trying to cross near the roundabout to go to the library or the bus stop in our village.

The needs of pedestrians should be the priority.
