WE all know that roads need repairs – let’s face it, any one of us can name a dozen that could benefit right this minute.
But it does seem that some roads suffer disruptive work on a regular basis, and they’re usually the major arterial highways that cripple traffic and cause ongoing congestion. Now figures show that there are at least 1,434 miles of roadworks around Britain, and that over a year a motorist could have to endure up to 37 hours and 14 minutes of delays.
This is not only a costly waste of time but tends to leave drivers feeling frazzled and tense. Obviously roadworks need to be carried out at various times, but is it too much to ask that we adopt the slogan “Do it once, and do it right”?
