Greater Manchester Police has welcomed four new police dogs to the force as one has gone to retire in Oldham.

While police dog Tommy is retiring after sustaining an injury to his leg in February, new recruit Brian is celebrating passing his police training to become one of the force’s newest fully licenced recruits.

Brian is joining forces with PC Brandon Adams, who celebrated six years in GMP in March.

PC Adams said: “Brian got his first job on Sunday (April 28), which was two suspected burglars in Stockport that we believe are responsible for numerous offences.

“Brian managed to track both of the people with assistance from TVIU (Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit) and NPAS (National Police Air Service) and they’ve subsequently been charged and remanded to court for a total of thirty offences.”

Brian is now also living with PC Adams, who used to work in Rochdale as an area response officer before joining GMP’s Tactical Dog Unit.

Tommy had previously worked in Bolton, successfully finding a stabbing suspect hiding up a tree in the autumn of 2020.

PC Adams continued: “Tommy had to retire unfortunately in February this year, as he picked up an injury and due to the injury, we couldn’t continue to work him.

“So, I have now got police dog Brian and Tommy is retired with a couple that live in Oldham.”
