WANDERERS boss Owen Coyle is ready to unleash David Ngog on the Championship in tomorrow’s home clash with Watford.
The Frenchman has been back in full training since the last first-team outing at Hull City a fortnight ago and scored in his first 90 minutes in the development squad’s 2-0 win at West Ham.
The 23-year-old declared himself ready to return this week after a back injury, and Coyle appears to agree after the striker’s impressive showing at the Euxton training base.
“David has trained fully since the last game and played a reserve game at West Ham, scored and did well,” said the manager.
“He has come through the last 10 days training in very good shape and is certainly added to the squad.
“He has looked terrific. We played a game amongst ourselves last week and he did well in that as well.”
Coyle is delighted to have his striking options widened and believes the freshness Ngog will bring is beneficial.
But it’s the alternate attributes the former Liverpool man brings that enthuses the boss most as he welcomes him back into the reckoning.
Coyle added: “David always brings a different facet and we have that with our strikers where they all have different assets.
“There is no doubt, having spoken to him, that he is desperate to do well and make a big impact this year “He has a terrific frame, is powerful and has got pace and undoubted ability.
“It’s up to him to go out there and show what he has got, whether that is tomorrow or not.
“When you get players back that have missed games, there is a freshness and he will bring that.
“It’s very pleasing for me in terms of the competitive edge of strikers battling for places.”
Ngog is added to a squad that is otherwise unchanged from the defeat at Hull with all the international players returning healthy after their World Cup and Under-21 European Championship qualifiers.
Some have travelled further than others with Chung Yong-Lee taking four flights to return from Uzbekistan.
But all are back and available for tomorrow’s game.
“The international boys have all returned,” Coyle continued, “though some have been further afield than others.
“Chungy had four flights to get back from Uzbekistan.
“That’s the nature of the international fixtures but the good thing for us is that the games were on Tuesday night as opposed to Wednesday.
“They are all back and fit and so aside from the long-term injuries with (Stuart) Holden and (David) Wheater, we look in good shape.”
