WHILE the London Marathon dominated the national athletics scene on Sunday, a major local race was taking place through Bolton.
The Bolton Harriers annual 10k road race had a record entry of more than 700 runners and first past the post was Bolton ace Paul Freary, who also sponsored the event, running in his Belgrave Harriers vest.
He won in 32 minutes 10 seconds, 38 seconds ahead of second-placed Matthew Moorhouse of Salford Harriers, while in third was Bolton Harrier Andy Parker.
His club-mate Tony Valentine crossed the line in sixth, just ahead of Simon Brutal of Radcliffe AC and just behind him, in eight, was Horwich Harriers' Ian Selby.
Bolton Harriers won the team event ahead of Salford Harriers with Horwich RMI Harriers in third.
