ATHLETICS: Anthony Valentine won the Bolton 10k last Sunday with fellow Bolton Harrier Ian Selby ninth.
Other notable performances by Bolton Harriers came from Tom Carson, aged 17, who won the under-20s category and was 13th out of the 750 starters, and Chris Kay who was 36th. The Bolton men won the team event.
Burnden Roadrunner Sue Booth won the ladies over-45s race.
Four of her Burnden club-mates took part in the London Marathon, Keith Thomas leading the way for the Smithills-based club, finishing 640th out of the 40,000 competitors in 2hrs 53:57. He was 23rd in his veterans over-50s category.
Shirley Staveley ran 3:34:19, Jane Forrest 3:38:33 and Claire Foster 4:35:51.
