A BELOW-PAR Leigh Genesis slumped to a 3-1 defeat against promotion-chasing Guiseley in the Premier Division.
Struggling Leigh went behind after seven minutes when former full-back Jerome Fitzgerald cracked home a free-kick.
Second-bottom Leigh levelled in the 58th minute when Chris Thompson laid the ball off to the edge of the area for Andy Heald, who was sent off in the midweek defeat to Kendal Town, to smash home his first goal in his third spell with the club from 25 yards, albeit with a Karl Brown deflection proving hugely vital.
The lead was to last only seven minutes when James Cotterill headed home from Chris Davey’s corner. And Genesis’ fate was sealed in the 76th minute when Adam Muller nodded home Guiseley’s third.
FC United moved back into the play-off places with a 2-1 victory at Kendal Town. Jerome Wright, who is set to leave the club this week for a team higher up the non-league pyramid, and Simon Carden put the Rebels two up inside the first 28 minutes. Town pulled one back through Michael Cole’s 66th-minute penalty but Karl Marginson’s side held on for three vital points.
In Division One North, Radcliffe Borough suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Warrington Town.
Boro succumbed to a strike in first-half injury time by Philip Hadland – the visitors’ only shot on target in the match. Town goalkeeper Ritchie Mottram turned in a man-of-the-match performance, making brilliant saves from Adam Roscoe, Craig Dawson and Griff Jones as Boro stretched their miserable run to one league win in 17 matches.
