WILL Aimson has left Wanderers to sign for fellow League One side Exeter City for an undisclosed fee.
The 29-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Grecians, and will go straight into their squad to face MK Dons on Saturday.
Picked up on a free transfer after his exit at Plymouth Argyle in the summer of 2021, Aimson made 45 appearances for Bolton and scored one goal.
He had spent much of his time at the UniBol as a back-up centre-half but recently enjoyed his best run in the side, and leaves having kept a clean sheet in eight of his last 10 appearances for the club.
Towards the end of last year Aimson had been tipped to leave the club but an injury to club skipper Ricardo Santos triggered a surprising run of starts.
He returned to the bench in Tuesday night’s 1-0 win against Forest Green, however, coming off the bench late in the second half to see out three points.
Wanderers have added two strikers before their game at Charlton, bringing in Luton Town’s Cameron Jerome and Burton Albion’s Victor Adeboyejo.
They have also allowed Kieran Sadlier to leave for Leyton Orient on loan and now Aimson to join Exeter, which could leave them light on defensive cover.
Ian Evatt had warned supporters that there could be surprises in store over the last few days of the transfer window, and has hinted that another two players could be brought in before Tuesday’s deadline.
Wanderers are actively looking to bring a player in on loan – with Tottenham’s Alfie Devine already touted as one possibility – and may now look to bring in a defender to challenge their current centre-half options.
