WANDERERS say Sammy Ameobi turned down “several leading Championship clubs” to sign a two-year deal at the Macron Stadium.
The winger, who was one of the cornerstones of Phil Parkinson’s survival effort last season, says he was delighted to commit his future to the club.
Ameobi scored four goals in 36 appearances in all competitions last season after signing on a free transfer from Newcastle United.
And speaking after completing the formalities on his new deal, the 26-year-old said he had no doubts about where he wanted to be playing football next season.
‘It’s great to have signed a new deal because this place means a lot to me. I’m really excited to be back and I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
“I spoke to the manager and he knows me very well. I get on so well with everyone here and it’s such a wonderful environment to work in. That was a huge factor in me wanting to stay here.”
