WANDERERS are optimistic Sammy Ameobi will sign a new contract to keep him at the Macron Stadium this season.
The winger’s current deal expires at the end of the month but talks are understood to have progressed well, with an agreement expected in the next few days.
Ameobi was a mainstay of Phil Parkinson’s side last season, making 36 appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals.
He had previously enjoyed a productive loan spell at the Macron in League One, where he made 24 appearances and also netted four times before returning to Newcastle United for the second half of the campaign.
He signed for Wanderers on a permanent basis last summer from St James’ Park, where he had played for six season after signing as a schoolboy in 2008.
