OLD Boltonians' Lancashire Amateur League and cup double remains on after they came through a penalty shoot-out against Old Blackburnians.
With goalkeeper Dean Hardy the hero Bolts held their nerve to win 3-1 on spot-kicks and they will take on Rochdale St Clement's in this Saturday's final. That season finale comes three days after they complete their league programme against the same opposition.
"It was a really good, exciting cup game," said Bolts manager Steve Eccleshare. "The conditions were sodden but that made for a good match.
"Old Blacks might be in the division below but they pushed us all the way – it was their season really. We were on top for the early part and when Darren Dalton's cross deflected and fell for Tom Whittaker he put us in front.
"We played some good football up until that point – that's when Blacks changed up a gear and they equalised midway through the second half.
"Luckily we'd gone to penalties in the earlier round against Tottington so we'd had some practice."
The tie went straight to penalties after the 90 minutes couldn't separate the sides and although Dalton missed Bolts' opening penalty the opposition sent two of theirs over the bar, with Hardy pulling off a smart save that allowed them to book their place in the final, courtesy of successful penalties by Sean Rushton, James Kinsler and Rob Taylor.
"We're still on for the double," added Eccleshare. "We've got two games left, both against Rochdale, and they're both massive games for us.
"We know that if we win the league game Failsworth Dynamoes have to go and win their final game against Horwich, which is certainly not an easy game for them."
In fact Horwich St Mary's Victoria are one of the Premier Division's form teams, as they dropped their first points in six games in a stalemate at Tottington on Saturday.
Their final two games will both be at their Scholes Bank base. This weekend they will host Old Mancunians in their penultimate game. Danny Holmes' men can do Old Bolts a massive favour in the final fixture on May 11 as they will host league leaders Failsworth Dynamoes.
Mid-table Little Lever were without a fixture at the weekend. They return to action tomorrow night when they head for winless Wardle to complete their league programme.
