Police chiefs have apologised after officers accidentally raided an innocent woman's home as part of an operation to smash a major drugs ring this morning.
Officers from the Tactical Aid Unit were supposed to target a house in Halliwell but mistakenly raided the home of a woman in her 60s who lived nearby.
They smashed their way in through the front window of her terraced home at 6.30am.
The officers shouted "Police" as they made their way into the woman's home.
It is believed the woman was awake at the time and was in her kitchen.
Police quickly realised their error and senior officers were sent to speak to the woman.
A police spokesman said: "As part of an on-going operation to target drug-related crime in Bolton, officers entered the wrong house.
"GMP has apologised to the occupants and will ensure that the damage to the property is repaired."
Officers carried out the raid at the correct house shortly afterwards.
The woman declined to comment.
