A LUCKY bidder picked up a piece of stage history at a bargain price at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s auction of costumes at the weekend.
Jane Hewson, aged 50, from Ross-on- Wye, bought the white shirt worn by former Bolton School pupil Sir Ian McKellen in a 2007 production of Chekhov’s The Seagull for just £60.
Other lots included a cream jacket worn by David Tennant in a 2000 production of Romeo and Juliet, which sold for £10, and a purple coat worn by Samantha Bond in The Winter’s Tale, which sold for £120.
