A SPEEDING driver who is accused of racing another car in Blackburn Road had just collected his younger cousin from a mosque during Ramadhan.
Ibrar Hussain told Bolton Crown Court how he lost consciousness after crashing a Mercedes into an Audi Q7 at 1.30am on August 4 last year.
Ibrar and another cousin Sabtain Hussain are both standing trial for dangerous driving after witnesses reported that it appeared the Mercedes and a second Audi were racing just prior to the crash.
The Q7 was turning right into Blackbank Street when it was hit by the Mercedes being driven by Ibrar, aged 27.
In the accident, Ibrar’s 15-year-old cousin suffered a broken jaw and a spleen injury.
Ibrar told the court he had been at home with family earlier in the evening after breaking his fast.
His cousin had called the house asking to be collected from the Madina Mosque in St George’s Road, Halliwell.
Both Ibrar, of Chorley Old Road and Sabtain, aged 22, of Maplewood Gardens, deny driving dangerously.
The trial continues.
