Angry Tories have complained to the police and the returning officer about alleged intimidation of voters at two polling stations in the Crompton ward.
Cllr John Walsh, leader of the Conservative group on Bolton council claimed crowds of both Liberal Democrat and Labour supporters had gathered outside the stations and electioneering posters had been pinned up outside.
"They were making it quite daunting for voters," said Cllr Walsh.
"They are pretty unsavoury goings on."
Liberal Democrat leader Roger Heyes said he had heard the allegations but hoped supporters of his party were not involved.
"If they were I would be very upset," he said.
Labour leader Cliff Morris said he hadn't heard about the allegations. "But it's probably something we should look at later," he said.
