A TEENAGER who drove at speeds of 70mph on a 20mph road has admitted killing a 14-year-old girl by dangerous driving.
Michael Partington, aged 19, lost control of his car and collided with a tree in School Lane, Wigan in the early hours of Sunday, February 13.
The accident claimed the life of schoolgirl Annie Cochrane.
Partington admitted causing death by dangerous driving at Liverpool Crown Court today.
Judge Mark Brown immediately disqualified Partington, of Wingates Grove, Westhoughton, from driving although he has not yet decided on the length of the ban.
The court heard Partington was driving at an “inadequate speed” on the unadopted road but an exact speed at the time of the crash could not be calculated.
One of his passengers had earlier seen the speedometer reach 70mph.
He was given bail with conditions, which prevent him from contacting the three passengers who survived the crash.
Rivington and Blackrod High School pupil Annie suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.
She was the front seat passenger of Partington's Rover 20 car.
When her father Andrew Cochrane heard of the crash he rushed to the scene and held his daughter, who he did not realise had already died, in his arms.
She leaves behind her father, grandmother Ada and younger brother Adam, aged 13.
Speaking outside court Mr Cochrane, of Hilton Avenue, Horwich, said: "I am glad he pleaded guilty but I will never ever get over this."
Partington will be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court at the end of October.
