A BOLTON MP is calling on the Government to have the new Elizabeth Cross military medal manufactured in the UK.
David Crausby, MP for Bolton North East, has welcomed the introduction of the new medal, which will be given to the families of armed forces personnel killed in battle or by terrorist attacks since 1945.
But Mr Crausby, who is the vice chairman of the House of Commons defence select committee, said: “I’m urging the Ministry of Defence to review this process and ensure that the new military medal is manufactured here in the UK.
“Anything else would be a serious disappointment in what should be a proud moment for our armed forces and their families.”
It is the first time that the name of a reigning monarch has been given to new award since the George Cross was introduced in 1940. The Cross will be made of hallmarked silver and will carry the rose of England, the Scottish thistle, the Irish shamrock, and the Welsh daffodil.
