A woman, 29, is in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries following a crash which claimed the lives of four people.
Five people are still being treated in hospital following a devastating road traffic collision in Bolton which claimed the lives of four men in the early hours of Sunday.
Emergency services were called to Wigan Road at around 12.45am on Sunday, January 11, to the fatal crash involving a red Seat Leon and a Citroen C4 Picasso.
Four men tragically died at the scene, police have confirmed that five passengers from both vehicles survived and continue to receive medical care for their injuries.
In the Citroen, a 29-year-old woman suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.
A 28-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man sustained serious injuries, while a 29-year-old man suffered minor injuries.
An 18-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Seat, also remains in hospital being treated for minor injuries.
The four men who died have now been formally identified as Masrob Ali, aged 54, Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, aged 18, Farhan Patel, aged 18, and Mohammed Danyaal, aged 19.
Their families are being supported by specially trained officers.
Detective Inspector Andrew Page, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said the investigation remains at an early stage.
He said: “We are still in the early stages of our investigation and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this terrible incident.
“As an investigation team we would encourage people to be mindful of sharing footage on social media given the impact this will have on all the families involved in such a tragic incident.
“Thanks to patrols in the area, teams were able to get to the incident location quickly to what was a particularly challenging scene for colleagues in the emergency services.
"I want to thank first responders from our Bolton district and the Road Policing Unit, alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service for their hard work since this incident.
“The scene closed on Sunday evening, but we are still appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
"Anyone who saw the vehicle driving before the collision, witnessed the incident itself, or has dashcam/ CCTV footage of the incident can share it with us.

Although the road reopened on Sunday evening, officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
