Amir Khan's former manager is accused of telling a woman to give “him what he deserves” before sexually assaulting her more than a decade ago.

Asif Vali appeared before Bolton Crown Court on Tuesday (December 16) after pleading not guilty to exposure, sexual assault and assault by penetration.

Huw Edwards, prosecuting, said in the summer of 2012, Vali, 53, “started showing a sexual interest” in a woman after the breakdown of a relationship she was in, which started with “inappropriate text messages”.

When Vali was in America, he sent her a text asking “what size knickers she wanted him to buy for her,” to which she said she “didn’t want him to buy her knickers”.

Mr Edwards said this continued over months and “got worse as time went on”.

He said that Vali, of Hill Cot Road, “would start getting too close to her and touching her in ways she said were inappropriate.”

The woman alleged that Vali would masturbate in front of her and ejaculate onto her.

Mr Edwards said that on a date in February 2013, Vali had assaulted her at an address in Bolton.

Mr Edwards said: “He said something to her about giving him what he deserves, grabbed her leg and pulled her towards him – but as he pulled her towards him, she fell to the floor.

“The defendant then got on top of her, she tried to fight him off – but he overpowered her.”

He said Vali then “pulled her trousers down to thigh level and used something to penetrate her vagina”, adding that “she can’t say exactly what part of his body was used but she felt penetration take place.

“She managed to grab a cup of coffee on the desk and spilt it over them – Vali jumped up and off her, and she then managed to get away.”

The court heard the victim hadn’t reported the assault until 2019, but had told “a number of people over the years”.

Mr Edwards said: “Eleven days after, she was seen in a doctor’s surgery, and told them she had been dragged off a chair and sexually assaulted”.

She reported Vali to the police in December 2019, and was interviewed, where she told police about the incident and that Vali was Amir Khan's former manager.

Vali was arrested following this, and he denied the allegations and told police that he “had never had any sexual contact with the complainant”.

He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of exposure, both alleged to have taken place between July 1, 2012, and February 20, 2013, and two counts of sexual assault alleged to have occurred between the same dates.

He has also pleaded not guilty to a single count of assault by penetration between February 1, 2014, and February 28, 2013.

The trial continues.
