The Kellogg's Plant is to close within two and a half years at a cost of 360 jobs after confirmation of the fate of the factory in Trafford Park.

Owner Kellanova confirmed the fate of the factory on Park Road today (May 16) a matter of months after its closure went to a consultation.

As a result of the consultation with the workers and their representatives from Unite and USDAW the company is putting in place a redundancy package and a redeployment scheme.

The Kellogg's Plant is to close by the end of 2026.

The Bolton News:

Chris Silcock, Kellanova's UK Managing Director, said: "We want to acknowledge the professionalism of all colleagues at the factory during what were some difficult discussions."

Mr Silcock said: "We understand confirmation of something significant like a closure is never easy to hear and we will try to make it as smooth as possible. This means we will work with partners on things like outplacement support for our employees and, for the community, we will start to explore the long-term future of the site."

Opened in 1938 the Kellogg's Plant produces cereals such as Corn Flakes, Crunchy Nut Corn Flakes, Coco Pops and Rice Krispies.  It received a visit from His Majesty King Charles III at the beginning of last year to celebrate the centenary of the business in the UK.

Mr Silcock said there is no long-term future for the site due to its layout, something with which Andrew Western, the MP for Stretford and Urmston, said he was "deeply disappointed".

Mr Western said: "I am deeply disappointed by today's news. The Kellogg's site at Trafford Park has been an iconic part of our community for decades with generations of local families working there. Its closure will be a huge loss for people in Stretford and Urmston.

"My first thoughts are with the staff. I am pleased that through consultation with the unions a redundancy package and redeployment scheme has been agreed but job losses are always difficult. I will continue to work with the unions and Kellanova to ensure the transition for staff at the Trafford Park site is as smooth as possible."
