Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights memorabilia sells for over £21k

A total of 27 lots - all different props from the show - sparked a lot of interest from fans of the show.

One diehard fan spent a whopping £3,300 on the Bermuda cocktail menus and the Magnet and Steel drawings from the spin-off show Max & Paddy’s Road to Nowhere.

The huge six-foot signs, which encouraged drivers to 'turn right or turn left and pull off into paradise' was among a treasure trove of props from the cult classic comedy, and they both went for £2,600 in total.

The banner - made of paper attached to a polycarbonate sheet - featured in the second series of the hit show.

The hilarious scene sees resident DJ and electrician Ray Von, played by Neil Fitzmaurice, wire the sign to a pressure pad on the road in a big to attract punters.

The auction was held at the Warren and Wignall Ltd auction house.

Saleroom manager Rob Sweeney said: "I was pleasantly surprised and wasn't sure how much things were going to go for.

"And a lot of them pulled together.

"I sat in the room and watched it and a few people were bidding live in the room and it felt old fashioned.

"Two bidders were going for it and it was tense and exciting to watch."

The show, starring Bolton's Peter Kay, Paddy McGuinness and Dave Spikey, was based in a working men’s club in Bolton.

And even though it only ran for two seasons, between 2001 and 2002, the Channel 4 sitcom gained a cult following with millions of avid viewers.

Bids were also made for banners, beer signs and metal plaques from the iconic clubland-inspired sitcom.

There was also a set of original construction drawings and stage plans for the show, which even sold for £400.

A beach-themed photo cut-out board from 'Max & Paddy's Road to Nowhere' went to the highest bidder for £520.

In 2022 the auction house sold a Phoenix Nights club sign prop that went for £3,000 and they also sold a sign from Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere previously.

Rob says that there may be more Peter Kay memorabilia in the future.

Warren and Wignall in Leyland have been going for 50 years and it is a three-generation family firm.
