A mother-of-two has raised concerns about the impact mould in her home could be having on her children.

Zoe Lloyd, who lives in Halliwell, says that she first noticed damp and mould in her home around two years ago, and despite efforts to resolve this, it has continued to get worse.

She says that she is taking her seven-month-old baby downstairs to sleep with her, due to the mould spreading in her children’s room.

Her daughter is sleeping in her room, while she and the baby sleep downstairs because of the issue.

She said: “I am very upset because I can’t seem to live comfortably with two kids.

“I have been dealing with it for two years and it’s affecting my mental health and causing the kids to be upset.

The Bolton News:

“I have been trying to clean it, and put wallpaper over it.

“How can you expect me to deal with mould with two young kids?”

After being contacted by The Bolton News, Zoe has said that the housing company Onward Homes have now offered to install five radiators and given her £300 worth of decorating vouchers.

Zoe says that although Onward Homes have carried out work, the mould, and damp has returned within a couple of weeks.

She said: “There is mould at the top of my son’s bed, and water on the ceiling is going near my clothes.

The Bolton News: “You can also smell the mould.

“It wasn’t that bad last year when I sprayed it, but it came back again.

“This is the worst I have seen it.”

Onward homes have said they “acknowledge that this has been an upsetting time”, and they have been to Zoe’s house to “identify what work needs to be carried out”.

They also said that vents were installed earlier this year when they “first became aware” of the issue.

A spokesperson for Onward Homes said: “We acknowledge that this has been an upsetting time for Miss Lloyd and her family.

“Earlier this year, we installed vents in Miss Lloyd’s home after we first became aware of issues with damp and mould.

The Bolton News: “However clearly this has returned.

“We have spoken to Miss Lloyd and visited her today (Wednesday November 22) to check the ventilation system and identify what work needs to be carried out to put things right.

“We apologise to Miss Lloyd and would like to assure her that we will work to resolve this as quickly as possible.

“We will also keep in touch with her to understand if she needs any extra support from us.

“We take reports of damp and mould very seriously and would encourage any residents with issues to report these to us straightaway.”
