A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug offences.

The Bolton North Neighbourhood team made the arrest after the driver reportedly tried to “evade” them on Oxford Grove, Halliwell.

Officers say that the driver “tried to discard of a quantity of drugs”.

A spokesperson for GMP Bolton North said: “This afternoon officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team noticed this vehicle trying to evade them in the area of Oxford Grove, Halliwell.

“The driver left this vehicle in the back street and tried to discard of a quantity of drugs.

“However, he was witnessed by our officers and detained.

“The male was searched under S23 Misuse of Drugs Act and found to be in possession of Class B.

“The male was arrested (on suspicion of) possession with intent to supply Class A, disqualified from driving, and possession of Class B.  

“The male is now in police custody awaiting questioning.”

Mums in Halliwell have previously spoken about how their children are being targeted by drugs dealers as they made an impassioned plea for something to be done.

A women's only PACT - partners and community together - was held with representatives from the council and police listening to concerns from the community.

The women in Bolton discussed how drugs was a huge problem that needed tackling in order to protect young children.

One resident explained that her teenage son was regularly targeted on the way home from college, with grown men asking him if he wanted drugs.
