Fred Carroll making deliveries in 1974
IN case you thought doorstep delivery was a product of the internet age, think again.
Forget Deliveroo or Just Eat, back in 1974 when this photo was taken, the good folk of Halliwelll relied on Fred Carroll and his trusty companion General for their fruit and veg on a weekly basis.
Fred, of Cundey Street, Bolton, had been delivering to the area for many years - the last 20 of them with General pulling his cart.
The picture was taken at a time when motorists were facing petrol shortages due to a fuel crisis. No wonder Fred had an extra wide smile on his face. He had no such worries!
