A stretch of motorway has been closed after a “multi vehicle” crash.
The crash happened on the M62 eastbound in Cheshire between junction 10 leading on to the M6 and junction 11 at Birchwood.
Drivers have been warned to expect delays and travel by alternative routes.
A statement from National Highways North West said: “The M62 in Cheshire is closed eastbound between J10 Croft Interchange (Preston, Birmingham, Manchester Airport, Stockport (M56), M6) and J11 Birchwood Interchange (Warrington (E), Birchwood A574).
“The link roads from the M6 J21A northbound and southbound onto the M62 eastbound are both closed as well.
“This is due to a very serious multi-vehicle collision.
“Emergency services including Cheshire Police remain in attendance.
“A Police Collision investigation will be taking place and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
“National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management.”
It added: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
Anyone with any information can contact police by calling 101 or in the event of an emergency can call 999 as soon as it is safe to do so.
