Bolton MP Mark Logan is in hospital after coming off his bike while out cycling.
The MP for Bolton North East posted a picture of himself from his hospital bed as he explained why he had to excuse himself from upcoming events.
Mr Logan underwent a two hour operation in a London hospital during which he had three pins inserted to mend a fractured hip.
He says that he remains in good spirits despite his painful injuries and was full of praise for the NHS and its staff who treated him.
He said: "Gutted I've had to cancel upcoming events and meetings in Bolton and Westminster.
"Hopefully, I'll be out of the wheelchair and back climbing Winter Hill in a few weeks.
"A huge thank you to the passers-by who went above and beyond to make me comfortable whilst waiting for an ambulance and to every doctor and nurse for their care.
"Our NHS has been freaking brilliant to me."
