A LARGE fire involving tractor units, vehicles and tyres broke out this afternoon, Saturday, causing plumes of smoke to be seen across Wigan.
Four fire engines were sent to Swan Lane in Hindley at around 3pm where there was a "fully developed fire".
There was a danger that a neighbouring building could have been engulfed by the flames but firefighters managed to contain the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Hindley Fire Station watch manager Mike Callan said: "When we got there it was a fully developed fire involving tyres, vehicles and tractor units.
"We managed to stop the building catching fire and we were there for around an hour.
"People from around Wigan could see the smoke from it."
No injuries were reported.
