Everyone loves a good boozer. Especially one with an idyllic setting.
This week's 'Bolton recommends...' is casting a light on some of the best local pubs with amazing settings.
These are five of the best, as suggested by readers:
Strawbury Duck, Overshores Road, Turton.
Situated among the hills, forests and reservoirs of Entwistle, the Strawbury Duck has long been one of Bolton’s landmark pubs.
Famous in days gone by for its hospitality and beautiful location, it has been brought back to life as a traditional pub focusing on quality food and great cask ales.
It also has five B&B bedrooms providing a welcome retreat from it all.
The menu is inspired by traditional specialties, with a wide range of Lancashire food classics and all produce is sourced locally.
Stone floors, warm wooden furniture, candlelit rooms and real log burning fires create the perfect pub atmosphere. An ideal retreat for outdoor enthusiasts, the Duck is a great place to rest and unwind.
Hogarths, Churchgate, Bolton.
Hogarths might be in the centre of town but it boasts one of the best views in Bolton.
Overlooking Bolton Parish Church, the cobbled Churchgate location is a treat.
Behind the bar, gin takes pride of place with more than 100 on offer. They even have their very own micro-brewery, where they brew four different types of cask ale.
Luciano’s at the Millstone.
Bolton Road, Grimeford Village.
Few places can beat the location at Luciano’s at The Millstone.
More of a restaurant these days, Luciano’s, in Grimeford Village near Rivington, has a self-playing piano, cast iron fireplace and a chic, glass-backed bar area. But if it is only drinks you are after, outside there is a great beer garden.
Packhorse, Watling Street, Affetside.
The Pack Horse is a cosy, traditional pub with open fires and wooden beams, offering craft ales and pub grub.
Said to date back to the 15th century, the rustic country pub features an attractive open plan bar with cosy areas for drinkers, diners and walkers as well as a dedicated dining area and a drinking and dining terrace offering superb views over the open countryside.
Toby Inn, Broadhead Road, Edgworth.
What really stands out about the Toby Inn, in Edgworth are the enviable views.
Beautifully located in the Broadhead Valley, the pub has with panoramic views across the West Pennine Moors.
Inside, traditional pub grub is the order of the day alongside roaring fires and a great rustic look. Sit in the conservatory, if you can get a space, where the views are best.
