A burning car rolled down a residential street in the early hours.
The drama happened in Melville Street shortly after 2.30am causing alarmed residents to leave their homes.
Firefighters from Bolton North used their feet to halt the vehicle then used a saw to cut off the bonnet of the brand new black Kia and placed it under the front wheels to act as a wedge.
Bolton North fire crew manager Mark Hoare said: "It was a rolling car fire that could have turned nasty and we spent 50 minutes at the scene..
"The heat from the fire caused damage to double glazing on a residential property."
The car is taken away.
Police and and ambulance also attended the scene but no-one required treatment.
The owner of the vehicle was traced to a property nearby,
