MOVE over Mary Berry — there's a new star baker in town.

Bolton School pupil Annabelle Gibbs has won a Christmas Cake competition.

For the last six weeks, girls in the Christmas Cake Club have been busy whipping up their seasonal cakes after being inspired by a visit to the Good Food Show in Birmingham earlier in the year.

Food technology teacher Natalie James, who along with headmistress Sue Hincks judged the competition. They said the Year 10's creation was "out of this world and would be worth £100 on the high street - she should go into business!".

Annabelle, who is studying food preparation and nutrition GCSE said she is going to try and save the cake until Christmas Day in order to show her grandparents.

Head Girl Priya Guhathakurta's cake was also admired, a Father Christmas falling headlong into a cake, and Kathryn Austin's cake with intricate edible lace was commended for being "highly technically advanced".
